The new organ replaces a Binns organ which had been moved from a redundant Methodist Chapel in the 1950s, and which was far too loud for the gentle plainsong of the nuns. It aims to provide a spectrum of unison tone for accompaniment, together with other colours to enable a useful portion of the organ repertoire to be performed.

The pipes of both manuals stand on a common soundboard, all enclosed in a swell box except for the Open Diapason and Sub Bass. The organ has suspended tracker action and mechanical stop action, and traditional winding with a Dom Bedos style tremulant.
