St Benedicts organ

The organ at St Benedict, Northampton

This organ was originally built for the new church of St Faith of Aquitaine, Wandsworth, London, in 1988. Sadly the church became redundant in 2007, but the organ has now found a new home at the church of St Benedict, Northampton, (only a short distance from our workshop). St Benedict's was built in 1982 to serve the growing Hunsbury area  of the town, and although designed with an organ gallery, original funding did not stretch to the actual povision of a new organ. The organ was brought up from London in April 2009.

The casework is made of solid Canadian Maple, with the pipeshades, console and Subbass pipes of contrasting American White Oak. For compactness, the pedal Subbass shares the lowest eighteen notes of the manual Stopped Diapason rank from tenor c.

Stylistically the organ sits very well with the strong contemporary architecture of St Benedict's.
